Defibrillator Fun
2003 Reader Submission

While at a Chicago suburban clinic, two janitors, Daryl Bingham and Adriel Rice, had a really great idea on how to pass the time at work. They discovered a "life saving" defibrillator machine. In an almost unimaginable attempt at fun, the two decided to give each other defibrillation. Daryl Bingham proceeded to place the paddles on Adriel Rice’s chest and activate the high electrical shock. Rice began to have seizures and was taken to a nearby hospital where he died (I wonder if the hospital staff attempted to use defibrillation to resuscitate him). Daryl has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. Luckily, Daryl was smart enough not to attempt this upon himself after seeing his co-worker’s reaction. This may lead to the labeling of all defibrillator machines with the warning "not to be used for entertainment purposes" or "not intended for use by Darwin candidates".
