LA GRANGE -- Bond was set Wednesday at $250,000 for a Chicago man whose horseplay with a defibrillator allegedly caused the death of a co-worker in a La Grange health clinic.
Daryl Bingham, 18, of the 1600 block of North Leclaire Avenue, appeared in the Bridgeview branch of Cook County Circuit Court for a bond hearing on an involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of Adriel Rice, 49, of Chicago, said La Grange Police Sgt. Tom Cimbalista. Bingham and Rice, who work for a janitorial service, were cleaning the Parkside Urologic Center in La Grange at about 8 p.m. May 22 when Bingham placed the defibrillator paddles on Rice's chest, Cimbalista said.
Rice began to suffer seizures, allegedly as result of his contact with the paddles, Cimbalista said. He was taken to La Grange Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night, police said. An autopsy revealed burn marks on his chest where the paddles had been placed, Cimbalista said.
Bingham was fired from his job after his supervisor learned what had occurred. He was arrested Tuesday at his home by La Grange police, and was being held Wednesday in the Cook County Jail.
