a schocking experience

For years, I have tested small 9-volt batteries by putting them to my tongue. The strength of the tiny electric current gives some idea of their potency.
But at work one day, I just couldn't figure out why my calculator was acting up. I took out the tiny adapter plug from the hole in the rear of the unit, and without thinking, put it to my tongue. Somehow, I figured I would get a small tingle and would know if the thing was getting any juice or not.
What I forgot was that the adapter was plugged into the regular wall socket. The other person in my cubicle stated that my hair stood straight on end and I let out quite a yelp. To this day, I still can't believe I tried to test a small electric cord plugged into a 220 wall socket with my tongue. I guess I'm just lucky to be around to even tell the story. It does, however, get a good laugh at parties! Submitted on 06/11/2002
