Three men, Dennis Caudle, 34, Tyrell Sturgell, 20 and Dustin Hodge, 19 were drowned in Table Rock Lake, Missouri near Cape Fair after taking out their homemade boat. The three men were missing for several days before first the boat and then the bodies were found.
Here's the Darwin award part: The boat was a homemade boat made by welding two john boats together and fitting it with a motor. They decided to try this boat out at 3:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning when it was approximately 40 degrees out. The men were from Jenkins, MO and Cassville, MO.
The Barry County Advertiser is a Cassville paper. I can snail mail a copy of the article to you if you want.
A friend of mine said to me after this happened, "It makes you scared to let your kids out of your sight."
I told her "No, because I am confident my child will not weld together two boats, get drunk, and decide to try the boat out on a cold night at 3:00 a.m." Submitted on 05/26/2002
