A 23-year-old man drowned in Lake Talquin Sunday after swimming out to retrieve a cork, the Leon County Sheriff's Office said. The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was fishing with friends about 1 p.m. at Hall's Landing when he swam out about 100 yards to retrieve a cork, said Sgt. Linda Butler, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office. On his way back to the dock, the man apparently drowned in about 20 feet of water, Butler said. His friends, who tried unsuccessfully to find him, called 911. Sheriff's Office divers recovered his body from the lake at 2:40 p.m., Butler said.
