Covington (GA) man killed while working under truck
(Excerpts follow)
A 58 year old Covington man (Roy Lee Glover) died Wednesday afternoon when the truck he was working under slipped off the jack, pinning him beneath the tire.
"The house he lived in had a steeply inclined driveway, and he used a bottle jack, one of those little, round, piston jacks," said Lt. Keith Crum of the Newton County Sheriff's Office. "It just wasn't stable. THe vehicle ended uup shifting and came off the jack; the tire came up aainst his neck and pinned him - he suffocated."
Apparently , Glover's wife Edna Mae tried to persuade him that the circumstances were dangerous. "She was fearful about the truck being jacked up on that steep of an incline and wanted him to put jack stands up underneath it. He just didn't bother, he wasn't going to be working on it that long, and he felt it was going to be safe." Submitted on 05/04/2002
