While teenagers danced inside the two bored security guards outside played 9mm quickdraw until one of them fatally wounded the other. Richard Antoine, 54 , died after being shot by his partner, Toran Joseph, 38, who was subsequently arrested and booked for negligent homicide. Antoine had previously worked as a deputy sheriff, was a part time preacher, and left behind a wife and two daughters, so his genes are still in the pool. Should his progeny learn from this event and avoid similar fates then incomplete natural selection will be successful. It is interesting to note that Officer Antoine was evidently smart enough to avoid being killed when assigned to road duty as a deputy, but not able to recognize the threat to his safety represented by a partner stupid enough to point his weapon at another officer. Any loss of a police officer is a tragedy, but further investigation by the NOPD should reveal the true extent of the binary stupidity displayed by these two men and the supervisor who last evaluated them.Submitted on 04/29/2002
