Police: One school guard kills another in quick draw game
Email story to a friend
A spokeswoman says the Orleans Parish School Board has suspended a school guard without pay while it investigates fatal horseplay outside a school dance. 38-year-old Toran Joseph and 54-year-old Richard Antoine had been assigned to protect a dance at Abramson High School. Police say Joseph pulled his gun and Antoine gave it a kung-fu style kick. The gun went off, killing Antoine. Schools spokeswoman Linedda McIver describes both men as veteran officer who had undergone extensive screening and weapons training. The Orleans Parish School Board employs 208 armed guards. McIver says Joseph had been on the force seven years and Antoine 12 years. She says Antoine is survived by his wife and children. Joseph was booked with negligent homicide, which carries up to five years at hard labor and a five-thousand dollar fine.
