Downwind Fire
2003 Reader Submission

I was going to burn a brush pile but couldn't find any desiel, so I decided to use a small can of gasoline and make a trail away from the brushpile.
I didn't realize that the wind was blowing the fumes right at me and I bent to light the trail when I went up in a ball of flames.
I used the stop, drop and roll and then went to my doctor. He diagnosed me with 1st,2nd and 3rd degree burns on my legs and arms and then proceeded to lecture me on not using gasoline to start fires.
I worked with the fire department for 3 years and I knew better than to ever use gasoline to start a fire.
My only explaination for my stupidity is that my brain went on a small vacation. Submitted on 04/28/2002
