Bike Riders Armless End

This story is about six or seven years old so it's from memory. It occured in the West Australian capital of Perth.
A guy that I knew from riding around the river bike track decided that peddling himself home after work was not the quickest way to get home.
Being somewhat of a conservationlist he refused to use is car in the CBD and insisted on riding his bike everywhere. He lived about 15km from the centre of town and it took him about 25-30 minutes to ride home along a major 4 lane road. He went home one weekend and designed himself a hook and handle, sort of like the old fasioned butcher hook but with a wider handle.
One night after work he rode across the river and waited at a set of lights for the traffic to stop, selected and likely looking truck and hooked himself to the back.
At first all seemed to be going well until the truck started to slow down for the next set of lights, the bike rider slowly braked using his free hand but what he was unable to see was the lights had changed and the truck suddenly accelerated ripping him arm from his shoulder. Screaming he angled the bike towards the pavement but unfortunately before the ambulance could arrive he bled out.
Maybe he should have stuck to just riding. Submitted on 03/27/2002
