BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A 20-year-old Warren County man was killed Thursday when he was hit by a train.
Dusty Abner was trying to jump onto one of the trains, said Bowling Green police officer Darrell Butler. ``He was going to show them how he could jump on the train,'' Butler said.
He tried to jump on the southbound train and didn't see the northbound train coming. He was struck by the northbound train.
Josh West, one of Abner's co-workers at a construction site near the tracks, said he told the group that when he was a kid, he used to jump on a train and ride for 15 or 20 yards just for fun.
West saw the other train coming, but Abner didn't.
``I hollered to try to get him to stop,'' West said, but Abner couldn't hear West because of the noise from the two trains. West said as soon as Abner looked up, the train hit him. ``It's just one of those things you never think (will happen),'' West said. ``It happened so fast.''
Warren County deputy coroner Dwayne Lawrence said Abner was killed instantly.
