This appeared in the British newspaper The Independent in around 1995 as an "Other news" story. I am very sure it is true. I'd love to have it confirmed...
So a 13 year old boy, who lives on the Isle of Wight in the south of England loves his pet scorpion. I recall it was a Black African scorpion, a big devil for sure. So one night, as he is putting it to bed, he decides to show his affection by giving it a good night kiss. He picks it up. He puckers up. He moves in for the magical moment... The scorpion, presumably because it is a scorpion and doesn't like being picked up, gets a good firm hold on the boy's lips with it's oversized claws, and proceeds to sting him 5 or 6 times in the face. He is rushed to hospital, still attached, and they cut the beastie off him. There the story ends. Kid doen't die, so I guess it is at best an honourable mention, but I'll tell you, that story is the money when it comes to bar room apocraphals, oh yes... Submitted on 03/17/2002
