A 25-year-old woman being towed in a plastic sled down Quartz Creek Road in Cooper Landing suffered major head injuries Saturday after she skidded into the oncoming lane and collided with a pickup, according to the Alaska State Troopers.
Deanna Hoy of Cooper Landing was listed in fair condition Sunday night at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Hoy was riding in a sled being towed northbound behind a 1993 Jeep driven by 28-year-old Coleen Clarke through a series of curves near Mile 1 about 4:30 p.m. when Clarke and passenger Erick Fish, 25, encountered southbound traffic, troopers reported. Clarke slowed the Jeep, but Hoy and the sled crossed into the path of a Chevrolet pickup driven by Steven Skolnick, 43, of Cooper Landing.
Cooper Landing emergency medical crews responded to the scene, and Hoy was airlifted to Providence by a Lifeguard Helicopter. Troopers are investigating.
