Sign Falls On Truck, Crushes Cab
The driver of a U-Haul truck was hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after slamming into a "No Trucks" sign as he entered a parking garage at the Towers Office Building on the Northwest Expressway.
The sign indicated a clearance height of 8 feet and six inches, but the U-Haul needed 11 feet, fire officials said.
The "No Trucks" sign crashed down onto the cab of the truck.
The truck's cab had to be cut in half, Maj. Brian Stanaland of the Oklahoma City Fire Department said.
"It was extremely tangled in there," he said. "Getting that beam off was very difficult."
After working to get the driver out of the cab, one of the fire trucks on the scene overheated and caught fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished. Submitted on 02/21/02
