1 rope, 3 guys, no brains

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Three men plunged to their deaths Thursday afternoon when a rope hoisting them up a tower broke. The three men were working on a communications tower. According to St. Francis County Chief Investigator Glenn Ramsey the three attached themselves to one rope. The rope hoisting the 3 victims up the 250 foot tower was then tied to the front of a pickup truck being backed up by their supervisor. Unfortunately, the rope broke at approximately 100 feet and they fell to their deaths

It needs more meat, but the essence of the story is one of monumental stupidity

Not enough info here. Let's see the investigators' report on the rope, etc.

Unclear. Was the rope thin enough that it was "obvious to your average ten-year-old" that it would break? Could be a Darwin, could be a simple mistake.
