According to police, the incident started just after 1 p.m. when a silver Acura Integra and a Ford Crown Victoria were headed north on San Pedro.

Police said the driver of the Acura, 19-year-old Valerio Perez, was driving erratically while the passenger, 19-year-old Isidro Cuellar, sat on top of the car door through the open window and yelled at the Crown Victoria behind them.

Cuellar then fell out of the car near San Pedro and Avenue Del Rey. Perez turned around and returned to Cuellar lying in the road. Perez then put the Cuellar back inside the car.

The Crown Victoria reportedly turned left onto Avenue Del Rey from San Pedro and did not stop.

Police said the Acura then fled southbound on San Pedro, traveling at a high rate of speed. Perez lost control of the car for unknown reasons, driving into on-coming traffic and hitting a black Chevy Silverado head-on.

"(The driver) picked up his passenger, who fell out of the car, and he put him inside the vehicle to get him help," said San Antonio police Sgt. Orlando Navarro. "That's when he lost control of his vehicle. (It) seemed like he was speeding and that's when he hit this other vehicle."

The driver of the Silverado was taken to a nearby hospital with a broken leg.

Both Cuellar and Perez died at the scene.

Thanks, Roger, but the driver of the Silverado was injured so we can't accept this. In fact even the passenger in the first vehicle is considered a hurt bystander since the driver is ultimately responsible for the safety of all the passengers in the car. The passenger wasn't responsible in any way for the final crash that killed the two of them. Thanks just the same.
