Benjamin Valteau, 25, was killed by a shooter who, police said, could have been acting in self-defense. Valteau pulled a weapon and, in return, was shot.

The father of the victim defended his son saying, "My son was just ... doing a scare attack," he said. "I know he wasn't pulling up to kill that guy."

Police said Valteau entered a parking lot, pulled a gun and was shot by a 25-year-old man. Valteau found his way back to his car, but drove only a short distance before the car veered onto the concrete of a neutral ground and came to a stop. Valteau was pronounced dead inside his car.

The shooter was interviewed and released.

One reason why Valteau wouldn't have attempted to shoot a man is that he had far too much to lose, the father said. "I don't think he'd sacrifice it all in broad daylight."

Valteau was known for his sense of humor and his strong work ethic. "He was the type of person that was kind and giving, and he would give the shirt off his back," the father said. "He was a giver."

Definitely Toss: Too Common
Thanks, Brian, but idiocy with guns is way too commonplace. We have all manner of gun-related stories in the archives, including ones like this.
