CO deaths Brampton

2014 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

2014-03-16 Brampton ON Canada (near Toronto). http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/carbon-monoxide-poisoning-kills-3-in-brampton-home-1.2575338

After their furnace failed, ignoring the big warning label, brought a propane-fuelled construction heater indoors and fired it up. Ignoring the wailing of their carbon monoxide detectors, three died including one of reproductive age.

I think this gets a special mention because of the "ignore those wailing CO detectors, they must be defective" plan.

Definitely Toss: Too Common
Thanks, Eric, but carbon monoxide deaths are extremely commonplace. We get lots of stories involving people using propane heaters, gasoline generators, and even charcoal grills indoors. And when there are multiple victims like this one then our self-selection rule also can come into play. Unless all the victims were aware of the danger and willingly allowed the use of the heater then some of them would be considered hurt bystanders. Thanks just the same.
