A young man climbed on the roof of a train, died of electric shock. Sunday 10.09.2011 at 02.18 (update at 03.34)

Young man in twenties died early Sunday morning in Kuopio, Finland.

They point out, that rail yards and tracks the movement is without proper permission is strictly prohibited.

Overhead contact line is the electric powered part of the track. Also electric train's pantograph on the roof of the structure parts are live.

They have a 25 000 volts at a dangerous voltage to the locomotive even if stationary.

A young man climbed on the roof of the train and died of electric shock early on Sunday morning. The incident occurred shortly after midnight.

According to the police the man in twenties had climbed over the fence and crossed the yard in Kuopio, and there seen standing on the wagon of a freight train.

The young man was hit above the train depended on the wire and was electrocuted.

He fell to the ground by the force of the shock and died on the scene, despite the rapid first aid.

"Whim"

Northern Savo, the police said it was apparently some sort of whim. The victim had arrived with his pals.

- More than one young man was there. Very judicious outfit, says Chief Inspector was present, Juha Taskinen.

He has not yet detailed information about why one young man decided to leave to the yard adventures.

- It is time off the beaten track, so yes they have gone there on purpose. Some sorf of a whim, he says.

The area is protected with a barbed wire fence.

The youngs shocked by the incident have already been a preliminary hearing. They are given help in a crisis.

Arc

Superintendent Taskinen to young man's death, there may be several reasons for this.

- The cause of death is not yet certain. May have direct and indirect causes.

He describes the electric shock caused by the arc made the victim fall to the ground.

Police is still investigating the incident.

Thanks, Petteri, but this sort of thing is quite common. We have lots of virtually identical stories in the archives, including one that actually has a link to a video showing a man getting electrocuted this way.
