This is about a young, impatient man named Jeremy and four friends whom after a day of shopping decided to call it a day and head on back to their car, but little did they know their evening at the mall was not quite over. The elevator that Jeremy and friends were riding in decided to cease functioning (stuck between floors); you might be able to see where this is heading at this point…too bad this group didn’t have such foresight, this is also where the impatiens comes into play.

They did call for assistance by using the “call” button that we have all seen in elevators, this call was made at approximately at 7:50 PM, but wouldn’t you know it about 15-20 minutes later there were two calls to 911 from the very location that Jeremy and friends were caught in the elevator…coincident I think not! It appears that the group did not want to wait for the fire department to come and remove them in a safely, or perhaps they thought it would be cool to pry the doors open and jump to the next floor down, just like the movies! Plenty of room to get through the door and jump to the floor, also a rather large opening below the bottom of the elevator. The first four people dropped down to the floor without incident, however Jeremy’s turn came up. He jumped down without a problem, but it seems that he lost his balance and fell backwards into that opening discussed a minute ago, not good….poor Jeremy fell about 30-50 feet to his death. It’s a shame that he has passed, he was only 25, but he should have (all the parties involved should have) known better then that, as a spokesmen says in the article "Use the emergency call button, sit back and relax and wait for rescue,"

Thanks for taking the extra time to do an original write-up. IMO, this serves more as an example of the fickle finger of fate than Darwinian stupidity. Four of the five made it OK; it would appear young Jeremy's demise was the result of his loss of balance at the worst possible time rather than his/the group's deciding to escape unassisted. Had Jeremy done something particularly stupid, it might be a keeper, but he was merely unlucky. Thanks for submitting, however, we DO appreciate it!
