I recommend WebWasher for securing your privacy!
Most modern web browsers support cookies. A cookie is an invisible
piece of information passed back and forth between your computer and
the webserver. Mix cookies with advertisements, and privacy issues
erupt.
Our site uses third-party ad agencies to serve banners. When you
load a page, the banner is requested from the ad agency server. This
server can read and set a cookie along with the banner, and they can
record what banners you've seen and clicked on. If you visit several
websites that use the same ad agency, the same cookie is passed along,
and thus the agency can also collect information about which websites
you visit. All this information can be used to build a detailed profile
of your internet activity.
Although a cookie cannot be used to obtain information such as your
name and email directly, if you give this information to a website
which passes registration information to the advertising agencies,
you can be specifically linked to your internet preferences.
There are two basic methods of blocking cookies: Blocking all cookies,
or selectively blocking cookies by site.
Blocking all cookies is accomplished by disabling cookies in the browser configuration. Here are simple instructions for disabling cookies. Your browser will probably be configured in a similar fashion.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x
1. Menu: View-Internet Options
2. Select Tab: Advanced
3. Find Section: Cookies
4. Select your choice
Netscape Navigator 4.x
1. Menu: Edit-Preferences
2. Select Category: Advanced
3. Find section: Cookies
4. Select your choice
Selectively blocking cookies per site can be accomplished using software, such as WebWasher, Cookie Pal, and PGPCookie.Cutter.
