A fool and his bike

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Well it started a while back, when I was still in my

junior year. It was Sunday round march me and my brother thinks its a perfect day to clean up the lawn. still this isn't about the lawn its is about a tree in my lawn. The tree was about three stories building tall and very branchy.a while ago this very tree was hit by lightning so it was dead as it is. Since we decide to clear the lawn we decided that this very tree must go. Instead of using an axe to chop it down we decide to do it other way since it was too big to cut or it will hit the house while falling. the best possible way to do it is to get rid of it in sections from the top down. well the thing is I cannot climb a tree carrying a hatchet

and if i climb to the top my brother couldn't handed the axe to me. So he use his head and figured out a way to take down the branch with out using a hatchet. Yes! dear readers A bike and a thick rope. he tied one end of the rope to his bike and another end to that particular branch which he hope to snap.

well if you guys do the math here you will see that to snap a branch you need both speed and weight to over come the tension. well he thinks he is a super biker. he took off with a quick sprint and when the rope reach its tension the branch just simply drag both the man and his bike lift it up in mid air and slam him down to the ground . luckily in stead of snapping his neck He suffer only a few bump and bruise and a fractured rib bone

Trees, even dead ones, can be remarkably strong. A mere bike is no match at all in most cases, as your unlucky brother found out. Thanks for sharing this story with us, Genp!

Your brother is lucky that the branch and rope did not act as a slingshot and toss him a considerable distance in the opposite direction. Thanks for the story, Gemp
