Fire Extinguishers Don't Work

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

A friend of mine who has been a firefighter for about twenty years just recently told me this story. He was called to a roof fire, when he and the crew got there they were met by the building maitence men. The maintence men told the firefighters that 4 or 5 fire extinguishers were used but that nothing had happened. After the fire was put out the firefighters discovered that the maintence men had pulled the pin on the extinguishers then tossed them into the fire like a grenade. needless to say this tatic did not work. No one was injured, but judging from their combined stupidity one or another of them will end up here eventually.

While this could have been written up a bit better, I got a chuckle out of it, and such antics by building maintenacne men wouldn't surprise me! I'm surprised they didn't explode! I guess I'll vote to keep this as a PA...

I don't know. I can see their logic. There's firefighting stuff IN these darned cannisters - maybe if we chuck them on .... ? Funny though.

Well, I like it! I'm old enough to remember the Carbon Tet bulbs that were thrown into fires to put them out. The story made me laugh out loud, so that's good enough for me.

I'll side with Jack, but I'm dubious... because the fire extinguishers could have exploded, endangering firemen.

It's a PA for me - the story is funny, and made me laugh!
